The horrific fires in Canada have had limited publicity considering their extent and impact.

Whilst wildfires are part of the natural ecosystem the New Scientist reports 02-canada-wildfire.ngsversion.1462462973292.adapt.768.1that their voracity and duration has been increasing.  Their is also a longer term impact.  The fires may release methane from the permafrost, thus increasing climate change.  Full details can be read here
